This Privacy Policy explains how The Hinds’ Feet Technologies PLC (“we”, “us”, or “our”), the operator of the Wegen mobile application and related services (the “Service”), collects, uses, and shares information about you. The Service helps members of the Ethiopian diaspora and local participants pay tuition and education-related fees across borders. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information. Name, email address, and authentication data when you create an account. Accounts and sign-in are managed using Google Firebase Authentication, including email verification.
  • Payment and payout details. Information needed to send and receive funds, such as recipient/beneficiary details, bank account or institution information, mobile-money numbers, and the currency and amount of a request. Card payment details, where applicable, are processed by our payment providers and are not stored by us.
  • Transaction and wallet data. Requests you post or accept, offers/bids, matched deals, payment status and timestamps, and in-app wallet balances and history.
  • Device and notification data. Push-notification tokens (via Expo) and basic device/app information used to deliver notifications and operate the app.
  • Usage and log data. Diagnostic and activity logs, such as actions taken in the app and error reports, used to operate and secure the Service.

2. How We Use Information

  • To create and manage your account and verify your identity/email.
  • To operate the marketplace — posting requests, matching participants, processing offers, and tracking each payment through to completion.
  • To process payments, payouts, refunds, and in-app wallet balances through our payment partners.
  • To send transactional and service notifications you’ve enabled.
  • To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and to comply with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • To provide support and to improve and maintain the Service.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to operate the Service, including with:

  • Service and infrastructure providers — Google Firebase (authentication, database, and hosting).
  • Payment providers — Wise (international payouts to institutions), PawaPay (Ethiopian mobile-money collection/payout), and, where applicable, Stripe (card payments). These providers process payment data under their own privacy policies.
  • Other participants — limited details necessary to complete a transaction you take part in (for example, the information required to fulfil a matched request). Confidential pricing limits are never disclosed to other users.
  • Legal and safety — when required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

4. International Data Transfers

We operate across borders, and your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by the providers named above. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal and transaction information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as required to meet legal, accounting, tax, anti-fraud, and regulatory obligations. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

6. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access, correction, and deletion. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us. You can also delete your account, subject to records we must retain for legal reasons.
  • Notifications. You can disable push notifications in your device settings at any time.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data-protection laws (such as the GDPR). To exercise any right, contact us using the details below.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
